In Unit 1 I experimented with using sound, my voice to allow access to my written pieces and add a new dimension on my website.
Feedback was interesting:
- A few people felt I was giving away too much, too soon and taking away the audience’s chance to explore for themselves. - Others were made curious, like me they were interested in how images, and the texts reception changed with the introduction of spoken instruction and information.
There was curiosity and resistance to my changing what they expected.
I have concluded that sound can distract or draw in the audience, it can change the reception of a piece of work but also add a dimension of intrigue to the delivery of a concept. To prevent the audience becoming distracted, the sound needs to be part of the entire site or attached to specific work to which it is part of.
Sound needs to be considered carefully, do I want to create a backdrop, a mood or do I want to give instruction?
I spoke Emily about music wafting on the breeze a piece such as ‘paper moon’ by Ella would set the mood, rain in the trees would set a very different scenario.

I remembered being young and hearing the crowd cheering at Lords cricket ground, I was put to bed in what seemed like broad daylight, that slowly faded and became dusk and then twilight. Finally, after what seemed an age, the night arrived and like an owl I was wide awake…. I wondered if Picasso’s owl was a night creature Who listened at night.

I have realised that the sound can evoke memory or add another dimension.
I found the sound to match Picasso’s owl tried it out with both a still and a video
I’m finding the animation a little irritating disturbing with the sound it works better with music, whereas the photo is bought alive by the addition of the little owl call - click for sound.

- Stop gap animation using ‘Picassos Owls’
My next experiment was to see if multiple images could be unified by one track or multiple recordings.
Unit 3
I need to start looking for the sounds to marry to my images.
What do each of the different approaches a result in and any other thoughts and refection’s.
What difference do these considerations make what is my conclusion.
